Almaty Kazakhstan
Discover numerous historical sites and museums, stunning gardens and parks, and gigantic mountains that make up the unique beauty of Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest and former capital. This lush green city with serene surroundings will let you acquire immense knowledge about the Kazakh culture. You will find Almaty warm, welcoming, and elegant once you walk across impressive gardens like Panfilov Park, Freedom Square, Almaty Central Mosque, etc.
Abay Opera
Do you possess a liking for Greek architecture? If yes, the gorgeous Abay Opera is worth a visit. We just loved the outstanding architectural style, colourful domes, marvellous ornate details, and intricate woodwork of the Zenkov Cathedral. On a lighter note, if you are willing to immerse yourself in their local culture, just step into the Green Bazaar. It’s a great place for shopping, witnessing lively interactions, and trying traditional snacks or local foods. Trekkers are welcome here as it’s a lifetime experience for those who hike into the Tien Shan, windy Saryaka Steppe, rainbow mountains, craggy canyons, glacier lakes, etc. Don’t forget to jump into Saty to explore Lake Kaindy’s Sunken Forest. Tourists can trek around the Kolsai Lakes and the Charyn Canyon.
Food you cannot miss!!
Just as you step into this graceful country that attracts nature lovers, don’t forget to try a preferable option for dumpling soup, Pelmeni and Lagman (soupy noodles with extremely fatty and chewy beef). Pasta lovers may try Kazakhstan’s national dish, Beshbarmak. This food item is served in a large flat dish consisting of broth, vegetables, and pasta layers, along with the main attractive ingredient, horse meat. Those who are fond of sausage may have Qazi (horse meat sausage). A very common appetizer in Kazakhstan is Baursok, usually served with kaymak, i.e., a thick cream dip. Horse meat happens to be the primary base of their maximum dishes. That’s the reason why you will get to see farms in almost all corners of sensational Kazakhstan. Vegetarians may try platters from reputed global chains such as Papa John’s.
If possible, try learning Russian or some Kazakh language as people over there don’t communicate in English, not even the public transport service providers. A better option for bridging language issues is using Google Translate. Are you willing to avoid the extremities of Kazakhstan’s weather? Try visiting from May to June or September to October. Thinking of what to wear? City dwellers often describe their outfits as Russian-style.
However, women in villages and towns prefer wearing traditional long-sleeved dresses and trousers. Men are happy to go with button-down or casual tees with trousers.
